Regardless of credit card limit or taste, the area is rich in places to shop. Whether it's a major retailer or some small but trendy boutique, it's here.

Augusta Mall, 3450 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta. Near Bobby Jones Expressway.

With retailers such as Dillard's, Rich's, Sears, J.C. Penney, GAP, Abercrombie & Fitch, The Foot Locker, and more than 120 other department stores and specialty shops carrying everything from jewelry and toys to video games and formal wear, the mall is a great place to start your shopping or end it. Complete with food courts and arcade, the mall has two levels, wishing fountains and lots to choose from.

Augusta Exchange, 235 Robert C. Daniel Parkway, Augusta.

Home to Target, PetSmart, Old Navy, Goody's, Fashion Bug, Payless ShoeSource, Best Buy and about 15 other apparel, electronics and sportswear retailers, the Augusta Exchange is the best spot for those who want a large variety of specialty retailers within a small area. There is the option to park and walk to these stores instead of having to wade through the aisles of the mall. The Augusta Exchange also is home to the Regal 20 movie theater.

Augusta Square, 3412 Wrightsboro Road.

Those looking for bargain retailers T.J. Maxx, Ross, Avenue and Rugged Wearhouse should look no further. Augusta Square places all of these shops together for a discount-lover's dream. The stores also share the complex with Blockbuster and the UPS store.

Augusta West Plaza, Augusta West Parkway off Wrightsboro Road.

Burlington Coat Factory, Shoe Carnival, Barnes & Nobles Booksellers, The Athlete's Foot, a menswear store, a hair care supplier and Christian supply store are located in this shopping nook.

Centre at Evans, 4471 Washington Road, Evans.

The Wal-Mart Supercenter might be the big draw to this shopping complex but Radio Shack, Payless ShoeSource and women's apparel retailer Cato and jewelry chain Friedman's have their customers, too. The Centre is home to cellular phone and hair and beauty suppliers.

Downtown Augusta

Stroll down Broad Street and its intersections and see shops dedicated to music, formal wear and antiques. Drop in to The Pink Slip, 130 Eighth St., to see the trendy styles of the North come South or step into the Raven's Hoard, 131 12 St., for handmade jewelry and ceramics.

National Hills Shopping Center, intersection of Berckmans and Washington roads.

Across from the golf course that made Augusta famous, Dillard's, Dillard's for Home, Merle Norman and stores selling antiques, sportswear, beauty supplies and shoes are a perfect shopping distraction.

North Augusta Plaza, intersection of East Martintown Road and Knox Avenue, North Augusta.

As close to a one-stop shop as any, Big Kmart, Hamrick's, Burke's Outlet and Payless ShoeSource anchor this shopping plaza. Sporting goods, cellular phone, pet care and greeting card stores also are close at hand.

Shoppes at North Augusta, 1201 Knox Ave., North Augusta include a Wal-Mart Supercenter, Radio Shack, Cato, Dollar Tree and The Shoe Department in addition to beauty supply retailers and restaurants.

Southgate Shopping Center, 1631 Gordon Highway, Augusta.

Retailers include Kmart, linen store Plejs, apparel store Citi Trends, The Athlete's Foot, Smartway Furniture, women's apparel, baby needs, beauty supply and school supply stores.

Southpointe Plaza, Deans Bridge Road and Georgetown Drive.

Along with a Wal-Mart Supercenter, the center has south Augusta's Goody's, Cato, Shoe Show and other women's apparel and rental equipment retailers.

Surrey Center, corner of Berckmans and Wheeler roads.

Selling everything from fine footwear, designer clothing, children's apparel, photography and art needs to lingerie and home decor, this collection of specialty boutiques also includes a Talbots.

West Towne Market Square, Washington and Davis roads.

Big Kmart is a giant in the good company of other small appliance and apparel retailers.

Aiken Mall, 2441 Whiskey Road, Aiken.

The Aiken Mall, renovated in 1997, is home to many major retailers including Dillards, Sears, J.C. Penney, Belk and 52 other stores including Kay-Bee Toy Store, Foot Locker, GAP and Sam Goody. The mall also has a small food court with a Chick-fil-A and three other restaurants.

Downtown Aiken

Most of Aiken's downtown hot spots are on Laurens Street, between Barnwell and Park streets. Customers can find shops such as Tea Garden Gifts, which offers unique gifts, personalized luggage and stationery; Plum Pudding, offering fine wine and kitchenware; and men's clothier Lionel Smith Limited. Restaurants include the New Moon Cafe and Malia's.
